Anawhata Beach
The west coast beach almost nobody bothers with, because you have to walk down to it.

Ten car parks at the top and a steep track down, which is exactly why it stays empty when Piha is heaving. Black sand, big rock stacks and usually a handful of surfers. There is a toilet at the car park and nothing else at all. Unpatrolled, with the rips the whole coast is known for, so this is one to look at more than swim in.
