Cheltenham Beach
Shallow, sheltered and about as safe as an Auckland beach gets, with Rangitoto straight across the channel.

A wide flat beach in the lee of North Head, where the warm shallow water runs a long way out before it gets deep. That makes it one of the easiest beaches in the city with toddlers. At low tide the flats open up and the whole thing turns into a giant sandpit.
