Kennedy Park
Off leash around the clock, all year, if you can face the stairs down to the sand.

A clifftop reserve with old gun emplacements, pōhutukawa and a wide gulf view, and one of the very few Auckland beaches with no time limits on dogs at all. Getting down means a long steep staircase the regulars have named accordingly. At low tide you can walk round from Castor Bay instead and save your knees.
