Māngere Mountain (Te Pane o Mataaho)

A large volcanic cone with intact pā terracing on the slopes and an unusual lava dome in the middle of the crater. The climb is moderate and the view runs across the Manukau to the Waitākeres. There's an education centre at the base if you want the story behind what you're standing on, and it's worth the detour.
