Maraetai Beach
A wide safe beach with a wharf to jump off and a pub across the road.

A long sheltered beach an hour east of the city, with a big grass reserve behind it and a village nobody has bothered to polish. The jetty is the main event for anyone old enough to be trusted with it. Eels turn up in the stream mouth, and children find them far more interesting than the view.
