Ōtuataua Stonefields Historic Reserve
Māori garden walls built up over centuries, in a lava field on the harbour edge.

Stone walls, garden mounds and lava outcrops raised over generations of Māori horticulture, with the Manukau on one side and the airport on the other. Quietly extraordinary. It's almost never busy, and the ground is open, exposed and uneven the whole way, so wear something sensible on your feet.
