Tāhuna Torea Nature Reserve
A sandspit and wading bird reserve, where godwits turn up each spring after flying from Alaska.

A tidal sandspit and lagoon set aside for birds, with boardwalks and a bush track through it. The godwits are the headline. They arrive each spring having flown in from Alaska, which is worth telling whoever you bring. Keep dogs out and stay on the boardwalk, since the birds roost right on the spit.
