Takapuna Beach Reserve
White sand looking straight at Rangitoto, with a fossil forest in the rocks at one end.

The Shore's signature beach, a long sweep of sand with cafes at one end and a campground behind. Lava once ran through a forest here, and the tree moulds are still there in the rock platform at the northern end. The walk south along the cliffs to Milford is the one locals actually rave about, and it takes about an hour. The toilet block has indoor showers, which is rarer than it should be.
