Tāwharanui Regional Park
An open sanctuary with white sand, a marine reserve, and kiwi calling after dark.
A fenced peninsula with a working farm, regenerating bush, a marine reserve and one of the best surf beaches within reach of the city. Birds are everywhere behind the fence, and if you camp overnight you'll hear kiwi. It's a long drive and worth every minute. Note the gate: car access shuts in the evening, so don't get caught inside.
What to expect
Picturesque regional park with 4 beaches, wetlands, forests & a wildlife habitat.
