Wenderholm Regional Park (Maungatauhoro)
A safe estuary beach with enormous pōhutukawa shading the lawn behind it.

Auckland's first regional park, with a sheltered beach between two rivers, a historic homestead and bush walks climbing to a lookout. The pōhutukawa are why people come back, giving proper shade over the picnic lawn. Kererū crash about in the canopy overhead. It was given back the name Maungatauhoro in 2026.
What to expect
Leafy coastal area featuring facilities such as trails, a campground, a boat ramp & beaches.
